About this listen
Winner of the 2024 Audie Award for Romance
Sparks fly when a romance writer and a documentary filmmaker join forces to craft the ultimate Hollywood love story—but only if they can keep the chemistry between them from taking the whole thing off script—from the “divine” (Jodi Picoult) New York Times bestselling authors of The Soulmate Equation and The Unhoneymooners.
Felicity “Fizzy” Chen is lost. Sure, she’s got an incredible career as a beloved romance novelist with a slew of bestsellers under her belt, but when she’s asked to give a commencement address, it hits her: she hasn’t been practicing what she’s preached.
Fizzy hasn’t ever really been in love. Lust? Definitely. But that swoon-worthy, can’t-stop-thinking-about-him, all-encompassing feeling? Nope. Nothing. What happens when the optimism she’s spent her career encouraging in readers starts to feel like a lie?
Connor Prince, documentary filmmaker and single father, loves his work but when his profit-minded boss orders him to create a reality TV show, putting his job on the line, Connor is out of his element. Desperate to find his romantic lead, a chance run-in with an exasperated Fizzy offers Connor the perfect solution. What if he could show the queen of romance herself falling head-over-heels for all the world to see? Fizzy gives him a hard pass—unless he agrees to her list of demands. When he says yes, and production on The True Love Experiment begins, Connor wonders if that perfect match will ever be in the cue cards for him, too.
“Full of big laughs, a few tears, and some seriously steamy scenes” (Kirkus Reviews, starred review), The True Love Experiment is the book fans have been waiting for ever since Fizzy’s debut in the New York Times bestselling The Soulmate Equation.

Story yes, Audiobook no
I had to stop listening to the audiobook and get the ebook version instead because I didn't enjoy the female narrator's performance, especially when she was reading Connor's part. I tried to listen while in my car, but couldn't understand anything she was saying, even though I turned the volume all the way up. It sounded like she was whispering loudly most of the time.
I didn't mind the male narrator's performance and often would listen along to the audiobook while reading Connor's chapters, then stop the narration during Fizzy's chapters.
Such a shame as I LOVED the narration of The Soulmate Equation and was looking forward to the sequel.
Overall, the story itself was great. At first, I was hesitant to keep reading when the reality dating show was brought up, but the premise turned out to be clever and interesting.

Great story, actors reading the book could be better
Love the story, however it was not easy to determine if it was Fizzy saying something (during Connor’s POV chapter) or Connor as there wasn’t much of a difference in voice or intonation to separate the different characters.

I loved the soulmate equation and this sequel was the perfect follow up. Loved the characters and the narration was excellent. Will definitely be re listening in the future.

The asmr style reading is PAINFUL
I really enjoy Christina Lauren books but I honestly considered giving up on this one so many times because of the weird whisper voice being used by the narrator. It was difficult to follow the story because the whisper voice was so off putting and unrealistic. It was so put-on and unecessary.

Returned
I got 2hrs into this audiobook and returned it. I was enjoying the story, but had a really hard time getting into the narrators. I had a hard time figuring out when they were having internal dialogue versus actually talking to another character. There wasn't enough distinction between the voices that both narrators used for the characters, which really pulled me out of the book. I liked the idea of having the two different narrators, but it was hard to tell when they were thinking something versus saying something. I'll buy the book and read it instead.

A lovely feel good easy read
These characters are so charismatic so you can't help but root for them. its got everything you need in a good old fashioned love story. I really enjoyed the first book in this universe, "The Soulmate Equation", and I actually think I liked this one even more.

Narcissistic heroine
Just did not like the main character. She’s crass, jaded, self centred and arrogant. Not someone I want to hang out with for the 10 hour duration of the book. Got through 4 hours. Could not finish.
