About this listen

The Bachelor meets The Hunger Games. Ten women. A deadly contest. Only one can win the Sun King's heart.

Lor has endured twelve long years of torment under the Aurora King's rule. Her only desire is to get free and pay him back for every moment of misery she's endured.

When a surprise release finds her in the hands of the Sun King, Lor is thrust into the spotlight as she competes against nine other tributes for the role of queen. If she wins his heart, she'll earn her freedom and finally get her revenge.

But Lor doesn't belong in the Sun Queen trials. Not only does she not understand why she was freed, she isn't a citizen of the Sun King's court. The other tributes resent her presence and will stop at nothing to ensure Lor is wiped off the gameboard—permanently.

Now Lor must win because if she loses, she dies. Or worse, she'll be sent back into the hands of the Aurora King.

This glittering fae romance is perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Jennifer Armentrout, and Raven Kennedy. Trial of the Sun Queen is the first book in the Artefacts of Ouranos series with an eventual happy ever after.

If you’re a fan of Sarah mass you will LOVE THIS!!!!

I loved this- I binged it in three days and I wish it was twice as long! Starting the next book right now😭. If you’re a fan of Sarah mass read this, it’s definitely inspired by ACOTAR and TOG, but in the best way possible with a similar world and similar ideas abt love, survival, magic and adventure. I sped through devouring every page and the epic adventure and chilling suspense. The author does a great job with foreshadowing and leaving hints throughout the book, so I did sort of know what MIGHT happen at the end which added to the suspense. This book wasn’t overly emotional, I never wanted to cry, but the story was so addictive and high stakes that I thought about it all day.
The performance was also well done, narrator wasn’t too dramatic or monotone, striking just the right balance so that you could focus on the story and stay engaged.
Overall, READ THIS!

I'm giving the series a chance but I'm not sure what the hype is.

First this is a dual narration. the narrators do all the voices in their chapters. Lor's chapters are in 1st PPOV but Nadir is in 3rd. I don't know why the author did that but apparently the next books are 1st only for both characters.

Narrator reviews: Soneela Nankani (female narrator): good job for both male and female characters. I actually preferred her voice over the male narrator. Corvin King (male narrator): just wasn't doing it for me. I felt the voice was trying to be bedroomy but it came out to irritate my ears a bit. some voices just do that. maybe if it was in 1st PPOV, It wouldn't be so bad but it just gave me an ick feeling listening to him. I also didn't think he differentiated the female characters from the males well.

story: it was ok. a bit hunger games with fairies. the spice was meh but there was a reason for that... no spoiling. which is why I'll give book 2 a chance before I say no more for the series. I really liked the FMC but she's not my favorite. a few times, I wanted to smack her. then I felt the final trial was a bit rushed. but I really liked how it officially ended (not the epilogue). I wish there wasn't an epilogue. I wish it officially ended with the last few lines. they made the entire book! I could have done away with the epilogue and waited until book 2.

overall. I'm giving the series a go and hoping book 2 is better. i think I'll read book two without listening to it. I just think overall it's all mid but I have heard so much about this book that I expected more.

50/50

This would be much more enjoyable with a different male narrator. Lor's voice is great, but the weird vowel sounds and whisper-drawl for Nadir were so distracting I don't feel like I could leave an honest review of the story

Audio Speed

I really enjoyed the story but had to put my speed up to 1.4 because the cadence felt slower than usual. (please note: I am ADHD and usually cut people off if they are slow at getting to their points in any and all conversations 💀)
